Behind the Scenes

Last weekend the family and I had our pictures taken for our Christmas cards. BOY was that an adventure!

I have to add that Carsen had a piece of candy cane in his mouth hence the weird grin.

We finally found a photo we could work with.  So, with some cropping and photo editing (gotta love it) we came up with nice card.  We even got 90% of the cards mailed already!  Can you believe it?  I'm really impressed with ourselves.

If you're doing photos with your kids learn to laugh.  Behind the smiles were a lot of "get over here."  Don't touch that!"  "Stop moving!"  We just had to laugh about it all.  It made the photo shoot bareable.  I love the memories behind this photo.

It's C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S

I am so put off with PC and the "green" lifestyle but let me just add that I do practice SOME greenism at home it just does not consume me.  I digress.  I went grocery shopping after picking up the boys from school and we ran in to Tucker's former teachers, a mother and daughter.   There we were in the middle of the walkway catching up and introducing my new baby and as we departed, from my lips I utter the words, "I hope you have a great holiday."

WHAT THE ????  Did I just say "holiday?"  Utterly disgusted I chastised myself all the way back to my car.  IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!!  I can't believe I just PC'd CHRISTMAS!!!  UGH!!!!  I have fallen into the trap.

I don't care that it was a pagan holiday eons ago this is the time of year chosen to recognize the birth of CHRIST our Savior.  God's ultimate plan unfolds and the plan for salvation was set in motion.

"Let's not offend..."  You have the right to be offended.  I'M offended that I have to walk on egg shells as not to offend those who don't celebrate the holiday.

I was listening to NPR, not by choice, but the alarm went off and a Jewish woman was expressing her culture shock of the American Christmas after living in Israel for the past 7 yrs.  "Christmas was a big party I wasn't invited to..."  Do other non-celebrators feel the same way?

So MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone and if the shoe doesn't fit then please, don't be offended you don't HAVE to celebrate it but I'm going to.

Baking and more baking

I have a lot plans for baking and cake decorating for this Christmas season.  Last night Tucker and I dipped Pecan Sandies in red and white candy melts.  I must agree w/ Tucker that the chocolate tasted devine and it was irresistable but the kid could NOT keep his fingers to himself.  What was I expecting?

I did have grand illusions of making wonderful memories of Tucker and I decorating cookies and having fun.  Instead it may be overcast with audio memories of Mommy saying, "Stop touching the chocolate.  Don't put that in your mouth.  Now you can't use that to stir the chocolate.  No one wants your saliva on their cookies!!!"  "Real bakers don't..."  Oye!

Back up Candes.  The kid is 3 years old AND IT'S CHOCOLATE for pete's sake.  WHO in their right mind, man or child, is going to resist eating the stuff?  I certainly didn't last night.  So, I eventually eased up and quietly noted which cookies had been defiled by eager fingers.  Tucker reamained in good spirits and kept me from boiling over.

I turned the red and white cookies into snowmen wearing caps.  I'm going to attempt to do more batches and perfect my technique for a smoother finish.  They are delicious none the less.  I've dubbed the snowmen my "Motley Crew, " a little rough around the edges.

I must give credit to Sugar Shack at CC for sharing her idea, which she got from Favorz.net.  If you ask me, Sugar Shack did a nicer job.

So my next venture will be sugar cookies and giving Tucker the license to decorate however his heart desires.  Let the child be.  I'll take pictures and just expect to clean up a messy work station, i.e. our dinning room table, AND  a messy little boy.
